Description

elementary OS 8.0 "Circe" arrived in November 2024 as the latest stable desktop release for 64‑bit PCs. It targets users who value a polished, macOS‑like experience while staying firmly in the open‑source ecosystem, and it ships with full support for x86_64 hardware.

The Circe update brings a refreshed Pantheon desktop with a new dark theme, improved AppCenter that now supports flatpak bundles, and a streamlined installer that reduces setup time. Under the hood, the kernel has been upgraded to Linux 6.5, delivering better hardware compatibility and power‑management. Network handling has been modernised with NetworkManager 1.48, and the system now includes a built‑in privacy dashboard for easier control of data‑sharing settings. Additionally, elementary OS 8.0 introduces a faster file‑indexing service and enhanced support for HiDPI displays, making the overall experience smoother and more responsive.

elementary OS 8.0 will receive security and maintenance updates until November 2026; it is not an LTS release.
